Access Statement for Glusburn Community and Arts Centre

This access statement does not contain opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our customers and visitors.

Glusburn Community and Arts Centre are committed to providing a venue that is accessible to the widest possible audience. Maintaining and improving the venue is on on-going process and we are continually working to provide an all round inclusive experience. Please share your views and thoughts with us on how we can continually improve your experience as this will enable us to ensure we are focusing on our customers needs at all times.

Introduction

The Glusburn Community and Arts Centre is situated on Colne Road in Glusburn in the county of North Yorkshire. The centre offers multiple spaces varying in capacity from 220 to 12 across 3 floors. Operating hours are flexible and depend on the hirers requirements.

Access on the day

Exterior directional signage for the venue is both wall mounted and free standing on all entrances. There is always a member of our team ready to help. When possible we do ask that individuals with accessibility needs contact the venue prior to arrival in order to make your welcome as comfortable as possible.

  • Glusburn Community and Arts Centre has ample parking available onsite with accessible spaces available. The car park is accessible of Croft Head Terrace.

  • Croft Head Terrace or Institute Street are residential streets and should not be used for parking on any occasion. 

  • The building has multiple entrances depending on which space is being used. Signage is in place for directions.

  • There is a small lift which will fit a standard size wheelchair. This serves The Main Hall. The Baths hall has an accessible entrance off Institute street. The Learning Centre has ground level accessible access from the main entrance. Unfortunately the Alan Clough Memorial Hall has no accessible entrance due to the nature of our historic building. Please see ‘Future Plans’ for further information on how we plan to make this accessible.

  • All staircases have handrails on both sides. The main stairs are extremely wide with shallow steps.

  • The centre office and box office is located on the ground floor with level entrance

General Access Information

  • We welcome trained assistance dogs and will provide a water bowl upon request.

  • All of Glusburn Community and Arts Centre communal areas and rooms are evenly and well lit

  • There is currently WiFi available on request throughout the centre

  • Glusburn Community and Arts Centre provides seating in all rooms. All chairs have no arm rests

  • There is an induction loop fitted in the auditorium. This service is included in the cost of all bookings and no additional charge will be made.

 

Toilets

  • The main Male Female and Accessible toilets are all situated on ground floor level. 

  • The Baths hall has self contained male and female toilets

  • All taps have colour indicators for hot and cold and accessible from a seated position as are the soap dispensers and hand dryers/paper towels.

  • Flooring throughout all ground floor toilets is an even non slip linoleum flooring. 

Future plans

We are continually planning and reviewing our access information provision to ensure interaction, experience and usability is suitable for people with accessibility requirements, customer feedback is critical to our accessibility planning and we welcome comments and thoughts from all our customers and guests.

We are currently moving forward with a large scale capital project to install a new large lift which will allow access to all spaces within the venue for those with additional accessibility needs.
