Busy busy busy!
Firstly... Welcome to this, our weekly blog which will keep you up-to-date with everything that is going on with regards to this exciting project!
So, we officially announced last week that we had received all required funding to go ahead with our exciting accessibility improvement works. We actually knew that we had the funding secured a number of weeks ago, however, we chose to keep it a little secret until we were more confident on when we would be likely to start the work. As you can imagine, projects like this take a lot of co-ordination, as we are working with a lot of organisations and contractors.
Our chair of trustees, Gill, who is leading the project, has been working tirelessly to ensure everything is in place. With projects such as this, we have to work closely with the local council planning department to ensure building regulations are followed, plus as we are a Grade II listed building we have obligations to fulfil with English Heritage too. In addition to this Gill has been working ensuring our main contractor has everything they need to get a plan of works together at their end. It's a good job she is retired - it's a full time job!
Our Institute team will be making a start this weekend to clear our the areas involved in building works, ready for the RN Wooler team to come in within the next few weeks. The core project team will be meeting the project manager from RN Wooler next week to cross the T's and dot the I's, prior to hopefully starting work shortly after.
It has been a very busy few weeks behind the scenes, but it looks like we are just about there and nearly ready to start the works. We will keep this blog updated, posting at least once per week. Sometimes it might be more if there is something that just cannot wait!
